About ARTwain
Short (50 words)
ARTwain is an app for AR glasses, made by an artist. It shows Charlie Caper's stereoscopic artworks and real-time 3D experiences in display AR glasses like XREAL, one full picture for each eye, with the phone as the controller. To our knowledge, it is the first app made by an artist for display AR glasses.
Long (200 words)
ARTwain is an app for AR glasses, made by Swedish magician, artist and creative technologist Charlie Caper. To our knowledge, it is the first app made by an artist for display AR glasses.
Display AR glasses, such as XREAL, plug into a phone and show a large private screen in front of your eyes. Most of them have a 3D mode, where each eye gets its own picture. ARTwain is built for that mode. Its artworks are made for two eyes from the first frame: full side-by-side 3D, 3840 by 1080 pixels, so each eye gets a full 1920-pixel picture and the art has real depth in the room.
Next to the artworks, ARTwain hosts real-time 3D experiences that you steer from your phone. The first is a Rubik's cube floating in mid-air: touch the phone to point, press firmly to grab, and drag to turn.
The name hides three ideas: AR inside ART, "twain" as an old word for two (two eyes, two pictures), and Charles's Wain, the old name for the Big Dipper, which is the logo, drawn in red and cyan like an old 3D picture.
ARTwain needs AR glasses and an iPhone 15 or newer. Android comes later.
